The Party at the North Star (2023 rework)

Back in 2001, when I was first playing with a pirate copy of (what was then) Fruity Loops, I began work on a mythical concept piece named "Alchemy Island". A kind of fantasy techno spectacular about a tropical pirate utopia featuring pirates (obviously), mermaids and other miscreant skalliwags, Sea shanties, airstrikes by biplane and a truly unlistenable (as in you are NEVER going to hear it) electronic cover of "Friggin' in the Riggin'".

It was always pretty sketchy and unfinished and fully deserves to be in Davy Jones's Locker.

However, two tracks somehow survived, and haunted me enough that I couldn't quite let them go.

The first is already out. Mermaid Rock (mentufacturer.bandcamp.com/track/mermaid-rock-2021-remaster).

The other is The Party at the North Star. Which I love partly for the name. And partly for the strange, acrid off-kilter riff that runs through most of it.

It's a pretty horrendous blustering barnacle of a track. Non-stop, tub-thumping, but not really danceable. (I mean it sounds like it should be but is kind of too tricksy to fit your body to. Like a lot of my beats I'm realizing)

But it's fun. And I like visual language of galleons under a full moon on a stormy sea.

Compared to the 2001 original, this version has been slightly reworked with a couple of new instruments, remixed and remastered by AI.
